It was a wet day in Los Gatos. We try to control our lives as much as we can but one thing that we have absolutely no control over is weather. Yes, it was wet and yes it was gloomy, but Amber and Mickey went through their wedding day with smiles. Instead of reminding themselves that it’s rainy outside, they focused on their day for each other.

Many family clients come back yearly. A big part of my family photography business is working with returning clients. This is the first time I photographed for this lovely family. I met Ed through one of my clients Laura. Ed and Laura both are extremely successful people. They founded the wonderful and popular custom product web site; Tiny Prints. Ed’s wife Polly is no “every day person”. She’s also a very successful business person. She founded the party favor web site called Beau-Coup! What a talented group of people here huh?!

Anyhow, I look forward to seeing them again this year. As a matter of fact, I just got an email from mommy asking for a 2012 session!

Although we had to travel from San Jose to Palo Alto then back to San Jose, the couple was so generous that they got us our own “vendor private limo”. UNREAL! This is the kind of couple that I am talking about. They were so considerate and loving.

Touched Me

This week, I spent a lot of time in Los Angeles photographing for Aegis Living’s marketing campaign for Southern California. I was there with my team; Maria and Emily. Today was the last photo shoot of the week. The day started strong, with everyone in the community being happy and excited. There were smiles and jokes going around the moment we walked into the door. We knew we were going to have a great day ahead of us.

2 hours into the shoot, I was asked to photograph a lovely couple Sylvia and Joe. Sylvia and Joe are married for 61 years! YES, I did say 61!! These two live in Aegis of Granada Hills together and they chose to spend their golden years here. It’s very common that I hear stories of long married couples or funny stories of residents, but today, this story touched me.

Sylvia has dementia. She stays in an area inside Aegis Granada Hills called Life Neighborhood (LN). This is where dementia residents get extra attention to their every day needs. Joe does not have dementia but he chooses to live in LN with Sylvia so he gets to spend extra time with his “love” (he calls her that) on a daily basis. I spoke to Joe and asked if it was ok for me to photograph them and he kindly replied, “sure!”.

When we were outside in the backyard photographing them, it was clear to me that Sylvia had difficulty understanding what was happening due to her condition. Despite her confusion, she greeted me with a smile. Joe began to tell me stories of him and Sylvia and how they have been together for 61 years. He said Sylvia is “his love of his life.” When I asked Joe to get Sylvia to smile at him, he started to sing to her in a low soft tone. Magically, Sylvia started to smile at Joe as she remembers all the great years they had together.

Here is the image when Joe started to sing to Sylvia. I couldn’t help but cried when I saw the way he looked at her. This image showed true love and admiration they have for each other. You see how much Joe ADORES Sylvia through his smile. Days like today was a life lesson to me. It taught me no matter what we have today, the only thing that matters at the end, is love.

Kohl Mansion is probably one of my favorite venues in the bay area. I definitely have my private list of likes. Judy and Jimmy are friends with three other couples that I’ve shot for. This wedding was elegant and full of beauty.

This past weekend was Michelle and Nathan’s wedding in Princeton and I cannot wait to show you their images!!

This lovely couple flew out to Northern California to enjoy the wine country. They are foodies and most of all wine-ies They asked me to join them in Napa Valley for their engagement session, who could say no to that?! We started their engagement session at one of Nathan’s aunt’s private winery up near Calistoga, then shared a peaceful lunch together at the beautiful Farmstead restaurant in St. Helena! The day couldn’t be better. No joke!
